We Create Readers

Picture Books, which are typically written for young children, are characterized by a combination of text and illustrations. The illustrations play a significant role in telling the story, often complementing or enhancing the text. Picture books are designed to be read aloud.

Leveled Readers are books aimed at beginning readers. These books, such as the popular Step into Reading brand, recognize different developmental stages of reading and are designed to deliver a successful reading experience at each level. 

Chapter Books are aimed at growing readers. They feature a more complex narrative divided into chapters. These books have fewer illustrations compared to picture books and are designed to help children transition from picture books and leveled readers to more text-heavy reading.

Graphic Novels are books that use a combination of text and sequential art to tell a story, typically with the use of paneled art. They support comprehension, build visual literacy, and foster critical thinking through layered, accessible storytelling in both text and art. Graphic novels for kids might fall into the category of chapter books, middle grade, or young adult.

Middle Grade books are aimed at elementary and middle school readers. They are more complex and have less art than picture books and chapter books. They might have no art at all. Characters in these books are of a similar age to the reader. Themes include family, friendship, identity, school, and others. Book genres include fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, historical, and more.

Young Adult books are aimed at readers ages 12 and up. These books often feature protagonists in a similar age range. Young adult books address themes and issues relevant to teenagers through coming-of-age stories. These books fit into a vast array of genres, including but not limited to romance, science-fiction, fantasy, and contemporary and historical fiction.
